Niharika Mohanty

Niharika Mohanty is a leading Odissi dancer in the US and a prominent disciple of Indian dance legend, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Niharika Mohanty has performed throughout North America and in Europe and India and is the Founder-Director of Guru Shradha, a premier institution. As a choreographer, producer, and dancer, Niharika has curated and worked on several productions/pieces, and relishes cross-cultural projects uniting communities, for which she was honored as a Mosaic Silicon Valley Fellow. She also holds an MA in Dance and has received several grants and awards for training, performance, and choreography.

Among her choreography, Niharika has worked on theater productions, Naatak’s ‘Mr. India’ (2016) and EnActe’s play, ‘The Conference of the Birds’ (2016), Indian writer/composer Annacharya’s compositions in Odissi dance (2015, 2017), ‘Masala’ (1996) and Mata Metrova (1997) with West African dancer Zelma Badu, ‘Harmonic Exchange’ (2017) with Odissi dance and Modern Contemporary with Coleen Lorenz, collaborations with Indian classical dancers of other styles, and within her own tradition. Niharika is thrilled to be in Beautiful Dark for its relevant theme and contemporary choreography and is currently also working on Oneness, a production focused on the important themes of unity in diversity and the immigrant experience in the US.
